A slice of German

Heading into South Australia’s capital, Adelaide is rimmed with border towns all offering unique experiences and glimpses back into how life was. Hahndorf is a historic town settled by migrating German Lutherans in 1838. The street scape is proudly much the same as it has ever been offering everything that splicing early Australian and history rich German cultures could produce. As we found out this means that beer is served by the liter and a plate of food is a weeks worth of groceries.

The next morning had us rolling out of bed still full from German fare but as dedicated Produce pickers we had to press on. Feeling hungry again after skipping breakfast and only needing a light late lunch. We stumbled across the ideal option. A modified VW Combie selling toasted ham and cheese sandwiches. Perfect! Followed shortly by a selection of things sweet from Blackeby’s Old Sweet Shop.

Adelaide is becoming something that takes time to digest, in a good way!
