Free Camping

Before we left for this trip we explored the notion of free camping which in a phrase is appealing to anyone wanting to hit the road. However you need to be set up for it. Our largest requirement is the ability to power things such as lights, refrigerator and lap top computer when we are not able to connect to mains power. Our first free camp was made at Mystery Bay just outside Narooma. A top spot where we stretched the legs of the chosen 12 volt system with power supplied from a 120 amp hour deep cycle battery and kept charged by a 200 watt solar panel on the roof. Everything was found to work as expected giving confidence to the free camping notion as we get deeper into Australia.

While exploring the area we came across a romantic gesture left by somebody obviously experiencing the same vibes we were while walking on the beach. Somebody needs to let Carrie from “Sex And The City” know that no, Romance is not dead!

Narooma was an unexpected gem of a town and being only a week into the trip could easily have become the last stop. A surprise encounter with some Australian Fur Seals soaking up the midday sun on the harbour rocks and showing off in the water was the decider for a take away lunch allowing us to make the most of this experience.
